Fingrid national electricity grid is expanding in Kannus by 2027 with 2 x 400+110 kV new lines, and national Gasgrid hydrogen pipeline is planned thru Kannus in the 2030s. Kannus also has significant fresh groundwater capacity.
Kannus is home to Kpedu - Finland’s leading agricultural education center. Kpedu Kannus provides a strong foundation for agricultural and bioeconomy expertise and work force in the region.

Kannus Eco-Industrial Park is further strenghtening the whole region by becoming a hub for sustainable circular economy. New Eco-Industrial Park will host Finland’s largest biogas plant, and Gasgrid Finland's national hydrogen pipeline will run alongside the industrial park. The biogas plant further enhances Kannus' carbon neutrality and supports directly the surrounding agriculture in its road becoming the first truly carbon neutral region in Finland.
Kannus has superb location for Data Centers in the north also in terms of security, accessibility, grid capacity and available space. Kannus is currently zoning new large industrial area for data centers and other electricity intensive industries. Potential available land area for future projects is significantly larger, upto 1000ha.
